Sony has recently announced that it will soon release a product that could change the way your home theater system works. The engineers at Sony have figured out how to put Bluetooth speaker technology into an environmentally-friendly LED light bulb. This allows speakers to fit into spaces that only light bulbs could fit into before. The wireless technology makes it a great addition to any home theater or living room space. Control at the Touch of a Button The wireless Bluetooth technology allows you to control both the light and the sound from your smart phone or tablet. The speakers and light can also be controlled from a specially-enabled remote. This allows you to pause dim the lights and the volume to create a more intimate feel or to light up the room and pump up the volume for maximum entertainment capability. If someone comes to the door, you can easily mute the volume for the conversation and resume the volume with the flick of a finger Wireless Speakers By utilizing Bluetooth’s wireless capabilities, these new light bulbs potentially allow you to create perfect sound in any room. Imagine no more wires cluttering up the floor space or hiding behind furniture and under rugs. You can have sound from any place you would put a light bulb, allowing you to use the light rays to visualize the sound output. These light bulbs allow you to create your ideal surround sound setup with the added benefit of ambient lighting, all of which you can control from your smart phone. High on Luxury, Low on Impact Perhaps one of the best...

The rate at which consumer grade electronics technology is evolving is truly staggering. It seems that electronics companies are rolling out new products daily and some of it would be unthinkable even ten years ago. Many of the technological developments of the electronics industry will inevitably have some repercussions in the home theater market. One such example of a possible “game-changing” technology was unveiled recently by the Korean electronics company, LG. They have produced a prototype for an OLED television that is less than a millimeter thick and can be mounted almost anywhere using magnets. Last year, LG produced a prototype for a 22” OLED TV that could be rolled. The new ultra-thin design unveiled this year is 55”. This type of technology, should it be adopted by the home theater industry, could change the market forever. What Is OLED? OLED stands for organic light-emitting diode. OLEDs offer superior quality compared to LED or plasma TVs. OLEDs eliminate the need for a backlight to brighten the picture. Each OLED can be powered individually to create the perfect picture and reduce strain on the eyes. By eliminating the parts needed for a backlight, OLEDs allowed engineers at LG to create the incredibly thin prototype TV. The commercial implications of this type of technology for the home theater market could be huge. Mounting with Magnets Perhaps the most impressive part of this new OLED prototype from LG is the installation process. Its light weight allows it to be mounted to the wall utilizing only magnets. Suddenly, mounting and installing a TV looks more like a teenager hanging a poster on their...

If you’re just getting into the home theater realm, you’re likely exploring all your possibilities as well as what’s hot in the market right now. Take a look at some key trends in the industry so you can have a better idea of what’s popular and how it may fit into your likes and needs as you go through the home theater construction and design process. Hybrid Rooms Home theater owners are becoming more practical with their space, designing them as functional and friendly for different types of events and gatherings. Home theaters may double as media or game rooms, as well as family rooms for good, old-fashioned hangouts. This typically involves more traditional furniture, like chaise lounges and sofas. Multiple Screens Gone are the days of a single screen. Home theater lovers are increasingly shifting toward multiple and dual screens in their sacred media spaces. Multiple screens are executed in a number of ways, depending on how the room is most often used. For example, home theaters focused around entertainment and party areas may have screens on different walls of the room, so that guests can orient themselves toward whichever programming tickles their fancy. Other home theaters may incorporate two or more flatscreens on the same wall or a flatscreen covered by a larger projection screen to provide entertainment for major events or movie nights. A Decline in In-Wall Speakers Many home theaters are seeing a shift from more-traditional in-wall speakers to floorstanding tower speakers and bookshelf speakers. While in-wall speakers are great for maximizing space and hiding equipment, other types of speakers are known to produce higher...
